Euro Result: France 1-1 Poland
Due to penalties from Robert Lewandowski and Kylian Mbappé in the second half, Les Bleus had to settle for second place in Group D.
Poland may have been eliminated after two losses, but they had not been defeated. They were essentially a match for their renowned opponents for forty-five minutes. Lewandowski, who is now fully recovered, provided them with a focal point for their assault, while 19-year-old Kacper Urbański provided a sharp counterattack with Piotr Zieliński.
Les Bleus were clearly becoming frustrated since something wasn’t quite clicking for them. Returning to the game and sporting a mask over his damaged nose, Mbappé attempted to galvanize them before halftime, but was again denied by the outstanding Skorupski, who was making his major finals debut at the age of thirty-three.
After Austria defeated the Netherlands, there was no goal at the half, and France had dropped to second place in Group D. It was only a momentary break from Mbappé’s assault. It went on as usual until Jakub Kiwior’s foul on Ousmane Dembélé 11 minutes into the second half gave him the opportunity to score from the penalty spot.
Lewandowski had the ultimate say, but Mbappé finally got off the ground at a EURO final by sending Skorupski the wrong way. Dayot Upamecano’s foul gave the veteran the chance, and Mike Maignan almost missed it since he had encroached. On his second try, Lewandowski tapped in with composure.
France advances as Group D runners-up to a round of 16 match in Düsseldorf on Monday, while Poland exits with pride.
