Georges Mikautadze’s first-half penalty was canceled out by Patrik Schick in an exciting draw in Hamburg.

Both teams entered the Volksparkstadion knowing they had tough games left in their Group F schedule, which meant they had to win after their first losses. It was a really intriguing match, with Georgia coming out on top early on. However, their momentum was quickly dashed as goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili had to deny two consecutive shots from Patrik Schick.

Georgia, led by captain Guram Kashia, their most capped player playing his 115th international game, was able to withstand early Czech pressure and stay in shape by rotating into a protective 5-4-1 while out of possession.

Driven by the thunderous wave of white shirts after them, the brisk Crusaders grabbed hold of any chance to launch a counteroffensive. Ivan Hasʯek’s charges were cautioned by Zuriko Davitashvili’s risky single run, but an end-to-end half followed, and minutes later .Václav Černý failed to finish a skillfully executed transition into the Georgia danger zone.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s beautiful free-kick found Kashia with ease, but Robin Hranáč’s outstretched arm caused the ball to bounce awkwardly and change course, leaving the game wide open. Georgia, you’re in the penalty!

Georges Mikautadze scored his second goal for EURO 2012 with style from the penalty spot. However, the first half wasn’t quite done since, a few seconds later, Schick launched a powerful attempt that forced Mamardashvili to make an outstanding stop.

With no intention of holding onto their narrow advantage, Willy Sagnol’s squad resumed the game after the break, with Anzor Mekvabishvili missing a chance during a fervent Georgian counterattack.

Czechia leveled the score after 59 minutes. Ondřej Lingr, the substitute, sprang to his highest point to deflect Vladimír Coufal’s corner onto the post. Schick was there to bundle in the equalizer, making history as the top striker in the EURO history for Czechia with six goals.

Neither team was content with a draw, and even though the energy persisted until the very end of the match—Saba Lobjanidze scoring a scorching breakaway for Georgia—the points were eventually split in an exciting match.
