In Munich, Luka Jović scored a stoppage-time equaliser to help Serbia rescue a draw with Slovenia.

Slovenia had the opening opportunity of the match when Adam Gnezda Čerin fired straight at Predrag Rajković from just outside the area, remaining unchanged from the 1-1 draw with Denmark on Matchday 1. Soon after, the Serbian goalkeeper had to save another low attempt from Jan Mlakar after the wide player from Slovenia had burst free inside the box.

As the half went on, Dragan Stojković’s team became better. First, Dušan Vlahovič headed a header straight at goalkeeper Jan Oblak, and then Aleksandar Mitrović mishandled a tempting pass that was heading toward the far post. Benjamin Šeško headed the rebound far over the bar after Timi Elšnik struck hard against the post late in the half, sparing Serbia from a late deficit. Moments later, Oblak made a superb stop at Mitrović’s feet to send the sides into halftime tied.

Within minutes of the restart, Serbia led 1-0 and Mitrović was denied by another outstanding save by Oblak. However, Slovenia continued to pose a threat on the counterattack, as Rajković showed off his diving save skills by tipping a curling Šeško drive over the woodwork, following in Oblak’s footsteps.

After the hour, the impasse was eventually resolved. Deep in his own half, Žan Karničnik regained possession and sent the ball to Elšnik, who tucked the low cross home at the far post, a Slovenian right-back. Not too long after, the 29-year-old was in the right spot at the right moment to divert Mitrović’s effort onto the crossbar. However, neither he nor his teammates could stop Jović from hammering home a header past Oblak from a last-ditch Ivan Ilić corner, denying Matjaž Kek’s squad a crucial three points.
